Meet The Principals

Nurazura Binte Mohamed Amran

Principal

Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education

“Learn continually. There’s always ‘one more thing’ to learn”. This quote by Steve Job resonated with Nurazura as she believes that a positive attitude in learning can lead to limitless discoveries and ideas. As such, she believes that each child who walks through our doors brings their own ideas, thoughts and culture. It is an exciting opportunity to be able to not only learn about each other, but learn with each other. For Nurazura, there is always an extraordinary collaborative spirit when we are learning and growing together. Together with creating an environment where children feel safe to explore and think outside the box, we are providing them with opportunities for great success.

Hou Zhaoxia

Vice Principal

Diploma in early childhood teaching – Chinese (DECCE-T)

When Zhaoxia first became a preschool teacher, the quote on the centre’s wall – “Every child is someone’s darling!” – stayed with her forever. Since then, she always aims to provide the most suitable learning environment to support and encourage children’s learning.

What is the difference between Little Skool-House centres that are under the Partner Operator (POP) scheme and those that aren’t?

At Little Skool-House, we have a network of centres, with 14 centres operating under the Partner Operator (POP) scheme governed by ECDA. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility, affordability, and quality of childcare services for working parents.

Besides our consistent core curriculum and teaching approach, our 6 non-POP centres offer supplementary enriching programmes such as music, sports, and our exclusive REACH (Read Chinese at Home) programme. The REACH programme provides weekly take-home books and accompanying audio guides for learning support at home, empowering parents to be more involved in their child’s education. These centres also boast superior facilities for a comfortable and stimulating environment. Parents are also able to chat real-time with our teachers and be updated on their child’s progress via our Parent App. Additionally, these centres maintain a lower teacher-child ratio for more individualised attention.

What are the objectives of the International Baccalaureate (IB)?

IB Mission Statement

The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

What are the IB Learner Profiles?

The aim for the IB programme is to develop international minded people who recognise their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, and help to create a better and more peaceful world.

IB learners strive to be:

Knowledgeable
We are committed in our learning about the world and engage in discussion that have local and global significance.
Communicator
We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways.
Thinker
We are creative thinkers as we learn to make good decisions and take responsible action when problem solving.
Inquirer
We nurture our curiosity and learn with enthusiasm. We know how to learn independently and with others.
Principled
We act with integrity and honesty. We respect rights of people everywhere.
Caring
We show empathy, tolerance and respect. We act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
Reflective
We think about our own learning and experience.

We are brave and work cooperatively with others to explore new ideas, roles and strategies.
Open-minded
We appreciate our own and other cultures and we are willing to grow from the experience.
Balanced
We can take care of our mind, body and feelings.

What is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)?

The IB PYP prepares children to be active participants in their lifelong learning journey. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer both in the classroom and in the world outside.

The curriculum structure strives for a balance between the search for understanding, the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, the development of positive dispositions, and the opportunity for positive action.

Our Mission
The Little Skool-House By-The-Vista partners families to fulfil the promise of each child, by enabling every child to have a good start in life. We aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people through our rigorous and challenging programmes. These programmes will encourage children to be active and compassionate, making the world a better and more peaceful place through intercultural understanding and respect.

Our Vision
We nurture and support each child to fulfil his or her potential to make a difference in this ever-changing world.

Our Teachers create possibilities for children’s learning.

Our Principals provide effective educational leadership.

Our Curriculum uses stories as catalyst emphasizes bilingualism and promotes contextualized learning.

Our Learning Environment promotes a sense of belonging, independent learning and social development.

Our Parents partner in our child’s development based on mutual trust and respect. We set out standards against international benchmarks.

What are the pillars of the PYP framework?

The framework emphasizes the central principle of agency, which underpins the three pillars of school life:

  • The Learner
  • Learning and Teaching
  • The Learning Community

What are the essential elements of the IB PYP?

The knowledge content is organized under the transdisciplinary themes.
The concepts play a particularly important role in “linking operators” of knowledge.
The learning skills aim to help students become independent, well-functioning, self-motivated learners.
The learning attitude aims to develop lifelong learners who demonstrate international-mindedness, and connect directly to the IB Learner Profile.
The action component emphasizes the need to connect the student with his or her own potential and responsibility for using what was learned.

What is the concept of Learner Agency?

It is believed that our children are agents for their own and others’ learning. Learners with agency have the following mindset and traits:

  • To have voice, choice, ownership and propensity to take action.
  • To influence and directly learn
  • To contribute to, and participate in the learning community

The sense of Agency is a mindset not a skill, and as such it cannot be measured.
